THE IMAM JAMIL al-AMIN FILM and MUSIC PROJECT

The Imam Jamil al-Amin (formerly H. Rap Brown) film, music, and entertainment project is based on and derived from his life of service, his writings and catalogue of material. We would like to discuss this project with those that are interested and can further assist.

This project is about the life of Imam Jamil (H. Rap Brown), known as the prolific civil rights militant revolutionary during the world altering sixties and seventies, Brown was known for his honest, incendiary speeches and advocating political demonstrations for change against racism and poverty that surrounded the African-American, minority, oppressed and poor communities all around the world during the civil rights era. Brown is often quoted from a speech that he delivered in the sixties when he said, “violence is American as cherry pie,” and “burn Baby burn!” Brown gave these type of speeches at rally’s when he believed that forcefu acts of racism must also be met with force itself. Because of his original style of poetry and rhythmic delivery, Brown is often credited by Hip Hop musicians as being one of the pioneers of the genre of Rap and Hip Hop music, hence the genre being call “Rap”. While serving a prison sentence in the seventies, Brown made the conversion to the Muslim faith and leads one of the largest Muslim organizations in the world. Now known as Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, Imam Jamil is sentenced to serving a life sentence in Reidsville, Georgia, for allegedly murdering a Fulton County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputy in March of 2000. After he filed and won several lawsuits regarding many violations of his civil rights, his presence in Reidsville lead to the conversion to many inmates to Islam, including some powerful former Arayan’s, and the public reacted to his mistreatment there, he was suddenly sent to the underground Supermax prison in Colorado where he is now being held as an alleged “high security risk”. The film amd music project is a bio-picture and docu-drama that will be a exhaustive, poignant expose into Imam Jamil’s life from the many varied videos and pictures for the day, re-enactments, commentary and interviews from the people he touched and knew him professionally, personally and spiritually.

This project is expected to have or has the support of Congressional Black Caucusmembers, (John Conyers, Bobby Rush and Bobby Scott among others), with some of the biggest names in music, entertainment, sports, Civil and Human Rights history! Harry Belafonte, Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka, Busta Rhymes, Cornel West, Angela Davis, Mos Def, Michael Eric Dyson, Freeway, Dead Prez, Amir Sulaiman, Chuck D, Eric B, Rakim, Akon, Erykah Badu, T-Pain, Saul Williams, DaveyD, John O’Neal (SNCC), Charles McDew (SNCC), Bob Mantz (SNCC), Bobby Seale (co-founder of the Black Panther Party), Kathleen Cleaver (Black Panther Party), Mayor Johnny Jackson (Whitehall, Alabama), Danny Glover, Zack de la Roche, Pharaohe Monch, August Wilson, Wise Intelligent, Ghostface, Dilated Peoples, Jurassic 5, The Last Poets, Pete Rock, Nas, Mystic, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Q-Tip, RZA, Talib Kweli, Just Blaze, Hi-Tek, Beanie Segal, Scareface, many religious leaders from around the world and many, many others.

a) Hip Hop
b) Conscious Rap
c) R & B, Pop
d) Spoken Word
e) Poetry;

2) Film and TV- a feature film, made for TV movie, documentary, and/or straight to DVD release, featuring material never before presented covering the 1960’s eras from the Civil Rights and Black Power Movement to the 1980’s guns and Crack Cocaine epidemic to present day; with the 1960’s Soul music from that time to now that has also evolved and yet remained constantly the same thru sampling; from Motown and the Philly Sound to Hip Hop, to Gangster Rap and the Dirty South Krunk; from the Viet Nam War, “Free Love Generation” and Gay Liberation to MTV/VH1/BET; from Collard greens to Foie Gras; from White Port and lemon juice to Cristal; from Black and White TV’s to IPODS; from the 1960’s Martin Luther King led March on Washington to the Million Man March to the Millions More March of 2007; from the 1960’s FBI/CIA COINTELPRO to the 2008 Hip-Hop FBI/CIA COINTELPRO today; from Blackploitation films to Blacks being exploited in film, Reality shows and music videos; all encompassed in a passionate love story of young, devoted, tender love that lead to a undying struggle to keep the family together in the face of constant, insurmountable odds and challenges;

4) Marketing and selling the current catalogue of his material- other books, essays, etc.; and

5) Merchandising- All goods

We will produce original music, of the highest professional quality by the most respected artist in the industry. Every track will be of the highest quality recording and will be mixed “radio ready.”

The concept is simple: one might know our roster for their respective careers, but now we will expose their creative musical side for this worthy cause. Every artist and track will stand on its own, centered around the Project material and theme. Once two commercial CD/DVD editions are completed, the estimated timetable to officially launch nationally will be determined, planned and executed.

This is truly a benefit for the those in need. The bottom line is, producers will provide the tracks to the recording artist, studio time where possible, mixing, remixing and mastering support. Being that we are non exclusive, the Family retains 100% ownership and may continue to license the songs to other interested parties. Something like this has never been compiled before and brings a uniqueness to the market. I know that the fans of these artists will really enjoy getting to know this side of them.

H. Rap Brown at 1968 Black Panther Rally for Huey Newton

Internal dissent against dominant American ideologies may be seen as having reached its zenith during the turbulent period when the rising civil rights movement, race riots in Watts, Detroit, Washington DC, Oakland, Wilmington, the 1968 Democratic Convention riots, voter registration riots all over America, racial lynchings and murders including those of Martin Luther King, John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Malcolm X, the freedom movements of the Black Panthers, Anti-War movement, white social unrest and the Free Speech Movement, Farm/Immigrant Workers Movement, Native American Freedom Movement, hippie/free love movement,Gray Panthers and the concepts of “All power to the People,- Black power to Black people, Brown power to Brown people, Yellow power to Yellow people, Red power to Red people!” and J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI’s opposition to these movements saw radical expression bloom and new networks and alliances among these groups take root in the late 1960s. Efforts to control and disrupt such movements used mass and alternative media as part of a broad-based strategy of opposition to social change spearheaded by the federal government, in conjunction with local police and cooperative private media sources. Exploiting divisions between groups seeking common cause proved an effective technique, as Federal Bureau of Investigation COINTELPRO operations built on a history of communication-oriented

COINTELPRO FBI Movement Against Americans

action to thwart rising movements, in particular the Black Power surge that saw organizations such as the Black Panthers, SNCC, The Weather Underground, and the Nation of Islam achieve dramatic gains in a racially charged environment. This study examines the effort to limit the impact of such voices and considers some of the consequences of that campaign of discourse control. While substantial damage was inflected upon Black power organizations, the movements in which they participated spawned considerable cultural and political ferment, much of it inspired by reaction to official abuses.

  6. Dear Friends and Pure Strugglers,
    Assalaamu’alaykum. What a treasure of archived materials that I have seen here. You have done an essential service to our coming generations who have not lived through those years of pure struggle against an arrogant and evil system. Only the deepest commitment to struggle for the Noble Cause could have put this country on the track it is on today. I hope our youth can see these items in mass numbers so that our future has direction and meaning because, as the saying goes, if you don’t know your history………….
